Morningside Artist Shares His Adventures in Alaska’s Arctic Tundra

Happy October! We're thrilled to welcome our Eastside neighbor and award-winning artist, Francis Vallejo, to Next Chapter Books this month. Vallejo is a Detroit native and Mexican-American artist whose works have been exhibited in major national publications, art galleries, and museums.

We hope you'll join us on Wednesday, October 16 at 6:30 p.m. as Francis details his experience living and documenting the Canning River Bird Camp on the Northern Arctic Tundra of Alaska with a team of 11 biologists! In conjunction with the U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and The Audubon, Francis created and illustrated an 88-page book based on this expedition.

He’ll share with us about connecting with nature and adventure, the commercial arts, and the process used to create the experimental imagery in his 'zine.

The event includes a 30 minute demonstration and Q&A. Oh, wait! We'll also have an early dinner available on-site with award-winning Tacos Hernandez food truck, rolling up at 3 p.m.
